latest listening
4 July 2008 | music | 1 comment
i decided to scrap my “blogroll” and “lists” (recent reading and latest listening) tabs above, where they were doubtless disregarded, and move the content down here, where it’ll similarly be disregarded (or mocked) - so, dear nescient scenesters, this is what discerning ears are currently listening to

sparks - exotic creatures of the deep
philip glass - jenipapo
klaus schulze and lisa gerrard - farscape
dvar - zii
laibach - laibachkunstderfuge
venetian snares - detrimentalist
residents - smell my picture
nekyia - alchemalady
tatu - white robe

bottom one titled “vomit” - inconsequential but i thought worth noting - and totally inconsequential to this, but something on my mind at the moment: why am i ALWAYS referred to as an “underground artist”? - and even a “self-professed underground artist”! - what?, never have i said that - *grumble*

a little film of the chapman brothers’ “fucking hell” sculpture is currently running at the official jake and dinos chapman web site
the re-made work itself is currently showing at the white cube gallery in england (*sigh!*) - along with a bunch of crappy paintings by hitler the boys bought anonymously for £115,000 and prettified with rainbows and hearts and psychedelic flowers (…and a less pretty price tag of £685,000) - it’s nice if you have that sort of money to play silly buggers with!

tb at dc
24 June 2008 | tb | 2 comments

the dennis cooper blog has been taken over by “you-x” for a special trevor brown day - an overview of works, obsessions and influences etc - not too sure how well this will go down with dc’s fanbase but i know dennis himself has mentioned me quite favourably once or twice in his blog before - i also read and enjoyed “frisk” very much (to the point of recommending it to friends) tho admittedly (shamefully?) haven’t read much of his other work (one other i tried didn’t grab me so much) - anyway, altho preaching to the converted for most visitors here, check me out over there

from the pile of mess that is the baby art drawing board, a sneak glimpse of “work in progress” - another little tease/treat that gives away little of the finished painting

doll by babet - it ended up being picked off the roadside by albert hofer who wrote this article on me some years ago

my inspiration
(i won’t say who the artist is - she is going to kill me - haha!)

i’m still searching/trying to buy a custom blythe myself - a couple of blythe collectors in my previous post suggested i should swap something by me for something by them - needless to say this thought had crossed my mind already - but i’m skeptical about how possible that’d actually be in practice - i’m too fussy about what i want - and generally prefer japanese artists work (who won’t be reading this, let alone would even contemplate exchanging their work for mine) - but just on the off-chance, i still have the two little paintings below gathering dust if someone could manage to tempt me with one of their creations

save the shibari

despite increased sightings in the west, shibari, aka kinbaku, ie rope bondage, is an endangered species in japan - at least from my observation - perhaps the genus, following natural survival instinct, has just hidden itself and is flourishing underground - tho of course that does acknowledge former commercial proliferation has waned - the adult stores sm/bondage territory has diminished dramatically since i first came to japan 15 years ago - it’s a relatively rare breed now, cornered and contained - nevertheless the erstwhile premier sm conservation bi-monthly magazine “sm sniper” is still upholding the heritage - headed by photographer yasuji watanabe - and furthering the campaign to fight extinction, le lezard noir in france has published a modest little book of yasuji watanabe’s photos from his sessions with master haruki yukimura
